Yes, You Do Need to Warm Up!

Just like you warm up your body before a workout, it's essential to warm up your voice before diving into a performance. Simple vocal warm-up exercises like lip trills, humming, and tongue twisters can help relax your vocal cords, improve your resonance, and enhance your articulation. Remember — warmups are not a performance. Do not push your voice, simply stretch your instrument in ways which feel productive for you. Additionally, tension in our neck and shoulders are a prolific issue which frequently affects our voices. If you identify with this, try some head rolls and massages!

The Breath Which Carries Our Sound: The Importance Breath Control

Your breath is the fuel that powers your voice, so learning to control it is key to improving your vocal performance. Practice diaphragmatic breathing techniques to ensure a supported sound which healthily carries you through each performance.

Red Leather, Yellow Leather: Focus on Articulation

Clear articulation is essential for ensuring that your words are understood by your audience. Practice enunciating each syllable crisply and cleanly, paying special attention to consonant sounds. Tongue twisters are a fun and effective way to improve your articulation skills.

Most of Our Bodies are Water, Yet Drink More!

Hydration is crucial for maintaining vocal health, so be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day! Avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol, as these can dehydrate your body and negatively impact your voice. Pro tip — make sure to hydrate a full 24 hours before each audition and performance. ♥️
