How to make a good impression in an audition

Here at Aura Casting, we see hundreds of auditions weekly.

So we know first hand how a first impression can effect an audition.

Keep reading to learn how you can make the best first impression and book the role!

Dressing Professional.

  •  Wearing appropriate clothing, looking presentable, and being well groomed are the bases of a good first impression. Your face is the first thing a casting director will see, make sure you look how you wish to represent yourself.

Having a Positive Attitude.

  • Having a friendly and enthusiastic demeanor that invites the casting director into your self tape is a great way to make a first impression and make the casting director want to keep watching. Displaying a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the role and project also show that you did your research and are passionate.

 Having Confidence.

  • Manage any nerves you may have by taking deep breaths and focusing your energy before you hit record. Maintaining composure by maintaining good posture, eye contact and voice projection will also read as confident and composed.

Following Instructions.

  • Make sure you read thoroughly through all the directions listed by casting services. Always triple check that you have recorded, gathered and submitted all of the asked materials and that you have filled out any questions asked.

Knowing the Material.

  • Having an understanding of what the material is and who your character is will make a better impression on casting than just going in blind for the role. Be familiar with the scene and any background information that could inform your performance. You should also rehearse any lines and/or actions needed in the performance.

By combining preparation, professionalism, enthusiasm, and confidence, your first impression will be a good one.
