How to Cast Comedic Commercials
Here at Aura Casting, we always have an amazing time when a comedic commercial casting comes across our desk. This latest piece for HPE by Skycar Creative was a thrill - great script, great production team, just in need of great actors. So we got to work!
The first step to finding the perfect comedians? Reach out to our network of creatives and ask them to create self tapes with their take on the character. We poured over hundreds of tapes to narrow down the finalists and enjoyed every minute.
The second step? Chemistry reads via Zoom! You’d be surprised just how cohesive and efficient a Zoom callback room flows. The director, production team & casting allowed each pair of actors to shine with their unique takes on each role. We mixed and matched different pairings, which gave the actors new dynamics to utilize in their scenes. In the Zoom room, you can give actors feedback and watch them execute that direction in real time. And if they don’t take direction, you’re well aware before casting them.
If you want to add some fun, allow for improvisation!
The joy of working with actors is watching them bring the characters to life! Improvising, especially with a comedic script, allows the actors show you that they understand the material and can riff on set if needed. An actors’ charm and comedic wit could also align with the brand that you’re making content for. Once you find your people, you’ll be ready to produce comedy gold.
