The pandemic has proven that self tapes and at home auditions are becoming the way of the future. You might have traffic, and once you are there, you might not find a parking spot. You find a spot! But it’s definitely not legitimate.. You think to yourself “I’ll just run in and out of this audition real fast and get back to my car quickly.” Of course when you get in the audition room, there are 15 people ahead of you, and you are stressed. So not only being in a studio with a bunch of other stressful people (maybe they couldn’t find parking either) but you have to deliver a stellar performance. Finally, your audition comes, you deliver a mediocre performance as your mind is thinking about THE CAR, and then you get back to your car and sure enough you’ve got an $84 San Francisco parking ticket on your wiper. Ugh!
The Audition Lobby…
We all know the anxiety associated with going in for auditions, but when we think of the audition lobby we get goosebumps. Everyone in there is cold as ice, no one is talking. The energy is pent up, tough to break, and stolid. No one entertains anyone else’s vibes. All the energy is sucked out because everyone is super nervous about their audition. When I used to get an audition, I would try to bring excitement to the audition lobby and get everyone loose! I knew that if others were loose, it would help me feel loose, and thus give me a great performance. I also remember casting directors scolding me for being way too loud in the lobby
