Welcome artists, to another segment of the Aura Casting blog, here to discuss all parts of our industry!
Whether you’re an actor, director explaining their vision, or writer pitching a new screenplay — we all perform in some capacity or another! So today, we're diving deep into techniques that'll have you feeling loose, limber, and ready to rock your next performance. From voice to body, we've got you covered, get ready to free your artistry.
1. Tongue Tied?:
While you’re delivering dialogue, have you ever felt the following?
Choked up
Breath cut off
Tight throat
Sure, sometimes we embrace those heightened sensations as actors, but more often than not, they are unsolicited results of tongue tension. Things that may help are using a paper towel to hold your tongue out with your fingers for a full minute. Sounds strange? Very. However, it works! Try it and feel the relief soon after. You may also try observing how you speak or sing in front of a mirror and make sure that tongue is not hiking up!
2. Indulge in a Massage:
Begin with a body scan. Feel the different parts of your body from top to bottom and assess what may need your attention. Then, using your fingertips or a massage tool, gently explore the muscles around your jaw, neck, and shoulders. As you knead out any knots or tight spots, notice how your body responds and adjust the pressure accordingly. Feel the tension melting away with each stroke, leaving you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
3. Visualization:
Close your eyes and picture yourself in your favorite serene setting – maybe it's a beach at sunset or a peaceful forest glade. As you soak in the tranquility of your imaginary surroundings, focus on your voice. Imagine it as a stream of water flowing freely and effortlessly from your mouth. With each exhale, visualize any tension in your voice melting away and being carried off by the gentle current. Open your eyes and feel the newfound ease in your voice as you return from your vocal vacation.
These are simply a few of the many methods out there for releasing tension! Although we are always on the grind — getting to that next audition, meeting our deadlines, pitching our ideas, etc., etc., etc. — make time for your all-important self-care. By releasing even a minuscule of our tension, we may gain ultimate artistic freedom! Wanna see some more resources? Click here!
