Our latest commercial casting was a fun one - Lowe & Helzer needed one adult and 5 kids for an Oomph! shoot that included a water balloon fight! How fun is that?

The Aura Casting team dove right in, and we were so thrilled with the submissions that we received. If you’re curious to how we find children who can perform on camera while acting professionally on set, we broke down our process for you.

While it may seem like a daunting task to get young actors to deliver a stellar performance, the key to success lies in letting them be themselves. By creating a comfortable environment where children can express their natural talents, their authenticity will shine through on camera.

For self tape auditions, we ask them to talk about their interests or show us an activity that they really love to do. It really helps us to see them focused on something other than being on camera. If there’s a Zoom callback involved, we love to ask for an improvised take! Kids are so great at thinking on their feet, and we can see how they react and adapt in unexpected scenarios. Zoom callbacks show how well they can handle new situations, which paves the way for a more natural on-screen performance.

Once you understand each and every kid, the next step is piecing together the puzzle of which kids would best fit into a group for your commercial. We’re always happy to extend our feedback or ask their representation for more info. Questions up front often lead to smooth days on set.

Do you need to cast kids in your next commercial? We’d be happy to connect. Reach out today.
