3 Tips to start your acting or modeling career in 2023

Taylor had a rockin’ session with Chani Jindal last Friday on Instagram Live! Chani is a true talent and Aura Casting was so happy that she was able to share her experiences as a working actor and model. If you are interested in starting your career or just need some inspiration for the new year, here are some great tips to get you started!

I want to model - How do I get started?

Chani: You are so lucky that you’re in 2023 and this is literally the world of content creation! Phones have the best cameras - Use that opportunity! You don’t need to have a professional photographer in front of you to be a model. How I learned was trying out poses, using a phone, recording myself, and seeing which poses came out the best. Do the photoshoots yourself and see what you like. Figure out your style and what you want to show in your art. Based on that, reach out to photographers. They’re not going to come to you, you have to put yourself out there. If it’s a good match, it will happen.

How do I get an agent?

Chani: I started off getting a modeling agent in Hawaii, now I have a commercial agent in Hawaii, Florida, and LA. The best way to get an agent is to form a database of who you want to work with. Not every agency is right for you and you’re not right for every agency. So do your research, and be prepared for some rejection. Make sure that you have all of your materials and that they are perfect. Don’t think too hard about it, just make sure that you have everything. You don’t need to have professional photos to get started. For theatrical agents, it’s a little bit harder. They want to make sure you have a good self tape setup and acting experience. Self tape setups are really important. When you’re ready, reach out to them and tell them know about you. Write a good email. One thing that my agent said that really made me stand out was that I had no experience, but my enthusiasm in my email stood out to her.

How do you prepare before a day on set?

Chani: The only reason that I do this job is to be on set! It’s so magical. Before going to set, I do recommend getting a lot of rest so that you look great. You have to be on top of your game. Make sure that you know what you’re doing. Do your homework. Even if it’s something as simple as a skincare brand photoshoot, make sure that you’re taking care of your skin the night before. I like to meditate in the morning and set intentions for what I’m going to do on the set for the day. What I want for the day. Even if it doesn’t go the way that you plan, you can take out something positive from it. And go have fun! It’s the most fun job on this planet, according to me.
